The Clean energy transition can feel like an obstacle course, but the costs are dropping, the government is incentivizing, and solutions are getting more popular. While top line problems (big data centers, corporate fossil fuel burning) aren't changeable by the average citizen, there's a lot we can do to decarbonize our own lives. Includes an illustrated gatefold called The Game of Life: Electrified, How to Decarbonize Your Entire Home (including perks and tips for renters!), and Electrify Your Wheels. Dragons ahead! Ahead of the premiere of S2 of House of the Dragon, here's an attempt at a design that's been in my head for a new family tree. If your uncle is also your husband, and the sister wives marry their children, stepsiblings become second cousins once removed, and it gets complicated quickly. I found that each character has to be treated alone, so after the incest continues this season, the challenge remains.

In George RR Martin's world, Targaryens bred brothers and sisters for centuries to keep blood lines pure, making for an interesting family tree, er labyrinth. The books and TV show diverge at times, so this represents what has been shown so far on the HBO series. Milk of the Poppy and deathbed mumblings aside, a lot of drama could probably have been easily avoided if they just named the damn kids different names? But then it wouldn't be as treacherous of course.

I designed 100+ graphics for Walt Hickey’s You Are What You Watch: How Movies and TV Affect Everything. The data journalist wrote about all the cool ways that movies impact everything: your body, brain, kids, identity, travel, sports, crime, spies, science, war, money, names, dogs, taxes, countries, friends, even enemies. Using his data crunching skills and spirited prose, Hickey takes a deep dive into how pop culture affects us physiologically, socially and even geopolitically. It was a fun challenge to translate his brilliant theories and complex spreadsheets into colorful, easy to digest graphics… I love how it turned out and hope you do too! There's so much written about the extraordinary, rich life of Jimmy Carter, it's hard to add to the bulk of material of his century of accomplishments. But on his 100th birthday I've been thinking about all he has seen, experienced and influenced around the globe, geopolitically, socially and culturally. A deeply spiritual and genuinely decent man, I can't think of another American so devoted to a life of joyful service. I wanted to graphically celebrate a few unique, fun facts about the man and his life... to inform, delight, and inspire. Happy Birthday JC! Personal Project 2024

In the last quarter of 2017, sexual assault in America reached a fever pitch. Spawning #MeToo, #TimesUp and #WhyIDidntReport, the ‘Harvey Weinstein Effect’ literally flooded the American consciousness almost every day following those allegations in early October. In the following three months, the U.S. saw over 150 accusations of everything ranging from rape to innuendo, across industries including Hollywood, sports, media, politics and more. While the national conversation and allegations continue, including countless others not in the public eye or ever reported, we are just now beginning to see the conclusion of some cases years later. On the anniversary of this watershed moment, here’s a data visualization of the sexual assault storm of the last three months of 2017, and what resolve it has come to, if any. Personal Project.

Where Do Designer Dogs Come From?

Morkies. Cockapoos. Chiweenies. These dogs may not have serious names, but they’re a serious business. Known as ‘hybrid’ or ‘designer’ dogs, these canines are bred with a purpose – to optimize the best qualities of each parent. Unlike some mixed breeds, designer dogs are generally born from two purebred parents. Depending on the qualities of the offspring, one puppy can be like having two dogs in one. Labradoodles, for instance, were first bred from labradors (which are common guide dogs) and poodles (with a low-shed coat) to be hypoallergenic service dogs. Puggles – a cross between a pug and a beagle – usually have a muzzle of a beagle, which can eliminate breathing problems often associated with the short-nosed pug. Not all hybrids are desirable. Designer-dog critics says genetic experimentations are exacerbating the problem of puppy mills. For instance, when a puggle inherits a short snout from a pug and the hunting instincts from the beagle, it may not have a respiratory system that’s equipped to handle all the exercise it needs. These unwanted dogs often end up in shelters. Despite the controversy, designer breeds have made a mark on the $60 billion pet market by commanding high prices that often exceed their purebred counterparts. And so long as the market continues to demand them, cavachons, pekeapoos and schnoodles are here to stay. For TIME and time.com
